I went to the doctor yesterday and was told i might have herpes. The first thought that went through my mind was, how? Following that, i was scared to think that my partner for 8 years would cheat on me. The doctor assured me though, that having herpes does not mean your partner is cheating. they said it could be something that he or I cought prior to our relationship. Since this is my body, i know i have not been unfaithful to him. The only sexual contact i had prior to him was one oral sex expeience, which was two years prior to our relationship, which makes it about 10 years ago. If indeed i've contracted herpes from that experience, why do i have the outbreak right now?
Is it normal to have an outbreak 10 years after being infected? i am confused....

herpes can lie dormant for years and the reappear so it might not be your partner.
if you trust him to tell you the truth then continue you with that
if not .......then that in itself will be stressful and challenging
hopefully it wont reoccure again

Several years ago I was completely blind sighted and devastated when I was infected with genital herpes during the second year of a relationship with a physician. Before having sex, he assured me that he had no STDs-- he lied. He apologized believing he could not infect a partner with asymptomatic herpes despite articles in the Journal American Medical Association and the New York Times in the early 2000s stating otherwise; he subscribed to both. In hindsight, I feel that he was too embarrassed to tell me.

Like your husband, he initially tried to convince me that I had it all along without realizing it. In fact, my treating physician thought perhaps that was the case. I knew it wasn’t. I insisted on the blood test in the first week of my initial outbreak. My initial blood test (takes six weeks to show up) were negative. Your partner has herpes— could have had before he met you and lied about it or cheated on you and brought it home.

From the moment he infected me, I experienced continuous anxiety not knowing what else he was hiding from me. The relationship ended from lack of trust.
