My son is 21 months and I made an awful error of judgment few months ago. Husband and I use Lucas papaw ointment for baby nappy rash. Also I heal my lesions. That time we bought huge tube and used ointment on baby nappy rash after we both (hisband and I) used it on our outbreaks. He (baby) deloped red bumps at the top of bum crease. I am desperate how we allowed this.

Are you sure that it is herpes? Maybe bacterial infection? It is unusual for herpes to transmit like this.
